Education is a Right, Not a Privilege.

In one of the wealthiest countries in the world, no one should be forced into debt just to pursue post-secondary education. Our commitment to free tuition is bold—but it’s also practical, fair, and long overdue.

What We're Proposing

We will eliminate tuition fees for all students attending public post-secondary institutions—colleges, universities, and trade schools. This will open the doors to education for everyone, regardless of their income or background.

How It Will Work?

Federal-Provincial Partnership

We will introduce a Post-Secondary Education Act that sets national standards for accessibility, equity, and affordability.

Working collaboratively with provinces and territories, we will phase in the elimination of tuition fees across Canada, while ensuring institutions remain well-funded and high-quality.

Student Debt Forgiveness

We will cancel all existing federal student loan debt to give young Canadians a fresh start.

No student should be haunted by debt for choosing to learn and grow.

What Will It Cost?

Eliminating undergraduate tuition fees across Canada is estimated to cost between $10–12 billion per year—roughly what the federal government already spends on subsidies for fossil fuels.

That investment would:

  • Cover tuition for all students at public colleges and universities.
  • Be offset by eliminating costly student loan administration and interest subsidies.
  • Be supported by progressive tax reform, including:
    • A wealth tax on the ultra-rich. Low and middle income Canadians will pay less taxes than they do now. Learn more.
    • Ending corporate tax loopholes.
    • Increasing taxes on speculative financial transactions.

Let’s be clear: this is a choice about priorities. We can afford to invest in the education of our people—we simply need the political will to do it.

Does It Work? The Evidence Says Yes!

Tuition-free education isn’t just fair—it’s smart economic policy. Here’s what the research shows:

Higher Enrollment & Completion Rates

Programs like the Kalamazoo Promise in the U.S. have led to increased college attendance and degree completion, especially for low-income students.

Stronger Economic Growth

A more educated workforce means higher productivity, more innovation, and long-term economic growth. A study by the Education Policy Initiative found that investing in tuition-free college pays off through higher tax revenues and reduced reliance on social programs.

Lower Debt, Greater Mobility

Tuition-free education reduces the need for student loans, giving young Canadians the freedom to start businesses, buy homes, and invest in their communities.

Reduced Inequities

It helps close the opportunity gap for students from marginalized and low-income backgrounds—building a more equitable and resilient society.

We already invest in roads, hospitals, and clean water. Why not education—our most powerful engine for progress?

Why It Matters

Canada is falling behind in education accessibility, ranking poorly among other Western nations. Free tuition is not radical—it’s common sense. Countries like Germany, Finland, and Norway have proven that publicly funded education works. It’s time we joined them.

We believe in a future where education unlocks doors—not debt. Let’s build a country where your dreams aren’t limited by your bank account.
